-: Note :-
DansGuardian is licensed under the GPL by its license
holder, Daniel Barron. Download and use it for
non-commercial use, which
includes home users, installation and use by educational
establishment employees, and other non-profit organisations
such as charities, social clubs, etc. Non-Evaluation
Commercial use requires that a license be purchased from the
DansGuardian website (http://dansguardian.org/?page=buying).
We highly recommend
that you read the license agreement information at
http://dansguardian.org/?page=copyright2 and that if you
will be using your IPCop/DansGuardian firewall in a
commercial environment that you pay for a license. The cost
is very little when compared to other commercial filtering
solutions. Maybe even consider a donation.
DansGuardian is a web
filtering proxy that filters using multiple methods. These
methods include URL and domain filtering, content phrase
filtering, PICS filtering, MIME filtering, file extension
filtering, and POST filtering. The content phrase filtering
will check for pages that contain profanities and phrases
often associated with pornography and other undesirable
content. The POST filtering allows you to block or limit web
upload. SSL Tunneling is supported.
The URL and domain filtering is able to handle huge lists
and is significantly faster than SquidGuard.
DansGuardian is designed to be completely flexible and
allows you to tailor the filtering to your exact needs. The
default settings are geared towards what an elementary
school might want but DansGuardian puts you in control of
what you want to block. We recommend that you install the
DansGuardian GUI to easily configure the DansGuardian
configuration files.
Improvements between DansGuardian 2.4.6-8 and DansGuardian
2.6.1 include: Clean URL Caching, Faster Startup,
MultiLanguage Support, Maximum File Size Restriction, bug
fixes.
-: Installation Notes :-
1. Make sure you have
updated IP-COP with
fixes1,
fixes2 and
fixes3 before installing DansGuardian.
2. Enable the Web
Proxy in Transparent mode so that the filtering can occur
properly.
3. The installer
scripts will block ports 800, 8000, 8001 and 3128 to prevent
people from bypassing DansGuardian.
